Wynwood Arts District (Miami)

Welcome to Miami baby! I traveled to Miami, Florida last month to hang out with my cousin Kim & meet up with Nefreteri. You may have heard of Miami (*cues Will’s Smith’s “Welcome to Miami”*), otherwise known as “The Magic City”. It’s infamous for South Beach, one of the most gorgeous beaches in the USA by far, crazy fun nightlife, and amazing warm weather. I mean who doesn't want to live in sunny skies year round? I did live in Florida for almost eight years and I love to have a good time so I had to give you guys a glimpse of a Floridian lifestyle!

Now I’ll touch on South Beach another day, but let’s talk about my favorite area of Miami…Wynwood Arts District!

Wynwood is an eclectic , artistic neighborhood that includes vibrant street murals LITERALLY everywhere. It’s such a serious hidden gem that is now become more popular. So the streets are busy now a days.

First stop! Wynwood Walls, an outdoor museum basically with murals by some of the best well known street artists in the world!

I’m trying to get you South Beach goers to venture away from the more tourist attractions, so bear with me. Trust me, it’s a hot commodity. ;)

Kobra Street Art Exhibit

Immediately after the shower, Jenny, Samantha, Natalie, Tressa and I went Blueberry Picking at Red, White and Blue Farms. Now I have NEVER done something like this before, but something about being out in fresh air picking an assortment of fruit does something different to you. It brought me so much joy! Lol.

Throwback pic! I have even brought my mom along in the past. She really loved this picture he did of Nelson Mandela. We share the same love of appreciatinng art. See where I get the new photography influence? Peep what’s around her neck. ;)

Fun Fact: Kobra has painted over 3,000 murals on five different continents! You can’t beat this guy. He’s a modern day Picasso. This mural of Salvador Dali, Jean-Michel Basquiat & Frida Kahlo (all artists I LOVE) are all on 2727 NW 2nd Avenue in front of R House Restaurant Bar & Gallery.

Sidenote: R House has a VERY popular drag brunch on Sundays that you can’t miss! I’ve been plenty with friends and have belted Beyonce over some cranberry mimosas so I recommend you make reservations. Lol.

My Fav Spots

Coyo Taco (Mexican)

2320 NW 2nd Ave.

Some were more ripe than others, some were more tart, some sweet, but look at how beautiful!

Also, snagged some fresh strawberry lemonade since awe dint

I was a little sick one of the days visiting, but THIS spicy curry ramen bowl brought me back to life! So yummy.

My cousin Kim loves to check out Wynwood with me so we went by Wynwood Marketplace, a dope flea market with tiny locally owned shops. It wasn't open the day we went, but go on the weekend and you will catch some amazing finds! Instead we took some cool photos!

7. Hale Bathhouse: The oldest surviving bathhouse built in 1892. Has a sauna in the thermal cave carved from the mountain side that I didn’t get to experience, but I will next time!

8. Superior Bathhouse and Brewery: This is the smallest bathhouse turned now brewery. It is the ONLY brewery in the world that utilizes thermal water for their beer!

Definitely if you want more fun, go to Pizza and Beer (The old famous Wood Tavern revamped) after. It will remind you of a backyard patio hangout for some hip hop, reggae & reggaeton. Ask for Hugo the bartender, that’s my boy! Party vibes!

Tada! Look at this photo! This captures my personality because I’m always laughing or smiling and I love doing artsy thangs. I felt like I was living my old model life. I’m retired now haha. My cousin Kim killed this…thanks girl!

This gorgeous mural captivated me so I had to snap this. Gave me positive vibes. I’m all for good energy!

Shout out to my cousin Kim (@kimspossible) on taking some awesome shots for us! Gracias prima.

Wynwood motivates me even more to just do what I love as pictured above because the neighborhood is just so amazing! All kinds of cultures just intertwined and I always love to see it! Makes sense why it’s one of my fav areas in the US. So just GOOO!

Until next trip, Sandiego Tribe!
